Finally got the skinned animation working! Kudos to Jon Watte for sharing the KW X-port plugin and the KW Animation framework.
Next up is syncing flapping with user input.

First working demo of applying bird physics to the cars in the XNA Racing Game starter kit! Nothing is decided yet, but we may just replace the cars with something else at some point in future.
